GmTD with TodoPaper

on May 06, 2008 04:59PM

Before I started building TodoPaper, I was really fascinated by David Allen's GTD philosophy. I started practicing GTD regularly. However, after using TodoPaper to help me out in the GTD front, I was solving problems and tackling tasks more quickly and efficiently. This is why I think a new extension of GTD should be formed:

GmTD (Get MORE Things Done)

or even

GmTDwTDP (Get MORE Things Done with TodoPaper)

NOTE: GmTD and GmTDwTDP are not actual philosophies or methodologies. See comments.
EDIT: This post was confusing, so I changed it a bit to clarify.

Comments:

Hello Jordan,

uuuuh, another acronym? Why? TodoPaper is just a tool (ok, a fantastic tool. i have used at least 6 different tools over the past 4 years, including pen and index cards, and i like the simplicity of TodoPaper the most). TodoPaper ist not a methodology, nor does it need a special one. Why associate TodoPaper with a 'new' methodology, especially when you can't find information about GmTD? What is GmTD? Is it better than GTD? Why? Can i use TodoPaper with GTD or do i have to switch to GmTD? What is with ZTD (Zen To Done)? (hypothetical, provoking questions).

A second thing to think about: When i am out looking for information or tools to help me being more productive, i usually search for GTD. It is an established term. Maybe i would have missed your site if you had used GmTD instead of GTD before.

I do not think that TodoPaper would benefit from a new term/acronym. But i am by no way a marketing guy, nor have i been good at marketing in the past.

Thank you for letting us participate in your considerations, Jordan. I hope you do not find my comments disrespectfull. I am not used to write in english.

Greetings, Steffen

P.S.: If GTD is too heavy or too complex for you (it is too heavy for me), have a look at ZTD (Zen To Done, http://www.zenhabits.net). It is a methodology derived from GTD but with a lot more common sense. Perfect match for TodoPaper ;-)

I completely understand where you are coming from, so hopefully I can clarify my position as well.

This post wasn't meant to be taken literally. But, I am very glad you did as it led me to a great insight into NOT defining a specific philosophy and methodology to be used with TodoPaper. The methodology "GmTD" doesn't really exist. It is only something that I made up while thinking about GTD and TodoPaper.

Here's my example:
I practice GTD... and when I use TodoPaper, I can do so much more. Therefore, I really practice my made up acronym Get MORE Things Done.

I'm sorry that I was a bit confusing in my post. I'll be sure to be a little more clear in the future.

Thanks for all of your support Steffen.

UPDATE: I edited the post to be a little more clear.
