WideFido™

New Upgrade Policy

on April 08, 2008 03:45PM

I've updated the upgrade policy for Widefido software.

Previously, I was thinking about charging for major upgrades (i.e., 1.0 to 2.0) with discounts given to license holders. However, this model was not coinciding with the Widefido core values. So, for the time being, I have changed the policy so licensed users can upgrade to the latest version of the software for free! This includes major revisions, such as from 1.0 to 2.0.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Comments:

You might want to put a time limit on that idea. What if your super-successful and are able to keep TDP and Widefido going for a long time? You don't want someone coming to you for free upgrades for the next 20 years, do you? Maybe, but I know software upgrades (even if just major releases) are a source of important revenue for many software companies.

Maybe you could put a two-year time limit on it? But then, how do you track that?

Clint, Thanks for the comment. I was thinking about setting up a limit of 1-2 years like you said. However, also like you said, it becomes difficult to "track". No worries though. We are still a young company and will continue to rework things as time goes on.

Thanks again for your comment and your optimism towards the success of Widefido :D

Best.
