Quick Log Box Not As Functional Subscribe to this topic

Me again. Another thing I've noticed about the new version (1.0.3.0) is that the quick log box is no longer as useful because I can't use it without a mouse.

Yes, it's cool that you can add all sorts of things, e.g., a Project with several tasks, all at once, but then there's no way to hit "log" unless you use your mouse. The tab key just indents the current line, and there's no Alt+keycode for any of the buttons.

Might I suggest something like "ctrl+enter" to allow the user to hit the log button without using the mouse?

thanks.

P.S. I would also suggest that "log" is not an intuitive label. At first I thought it would bring me to the error log of the application. But when I realized that my choices were "cancel" and "log", I guessed that "log" really meant "ok".

P.P.S. I've also noticed that there's no okay/cancel buttons for the preferences screen. That screws me up constantly.

Odd that the preference buttons aren't showing. To help me diagnose, can you tell me which version of windows are you using and what is your screen resolution?

I understand that log isn't a very good label. I will be changing this in the next update. I'll also add in the correct accessibility Alt key codes.

I think by providing ctrl+enter or some other hotkey to submit the quicklog form will be beneficial. I'll work this into the next update. I'll probably release a minor update for these simple usability bugs soon.

Thanks again for all of your input. Let me know if you run across anything else. If you want, you can email also email me via the contact page

I'm trialling TodoPaper right now and I love it. Unfortunately I was loving it more before the 1.0.3.0 upgrade. The log function pre 1.0.3.0 allowed me to finish an entry with the enter key or just by clicking outside the box. Also, and this I found to be a real boon, was the rapid entry ability. After making an entry I clicked shift/enter and a new box came up allowing me to make another, separate entry. This I could repeat till I'd finished offloading my thoughts when I hit enter and that was it.

This was a rapid way to make many entries and for brainstorming. The inbox then was a container for random thoughts and todo's from where I sent them to appropriate project sections later when I could focus only on them and didn't have to think about where they needed to go while working on something else.

I would dearly love to see this function again. GTDer or not, this was magic.

Sincerely,

Robert.

Hey Robert,

Thank you for your input. It seems that this update to the quick log has removed the "quickness" from it. I'll be looking into this and either:

  1. Restoring the previous quick logging functionality, or
  2. Speeding up the "quickness" of this version's quick log dialog.

Which do you feel would best suit your needs? (Anybody else?)

Thanks again!

I agree with Robert that the older quick entry was much quicker. And I like the look better too. I admit that it's intriguing to be able to add several lines at once, but I'm more of a one-line-at-a-time kind of person.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'll be reworking the quicklog feature back to its previous state. If you have any more suggestions, let me know.

Hey All,

I've restored the functionality of the quick log to mimic that of the previous version. This includes:

  • Enter key submits the log
  • Shift+Enter allows you to enter multiple items
  • Escape closes the window
  • Clicking the mouse outside of the window closes the QuickLog

Plus, I have re-worked the look. Here's a screenshot

Let me know what you think!

Very nice. I like the fact that you've got all the functionality of the old and the new. I'm looking forward to it.
