Boost Your Creativity with Ambient Noise

I’ve been working from my home office for the past 9 weeks, and while I enjoy the perks (comfortable chair, unlimited coffee, few interruptions) I’ve noticed that the routine can become a bit monotonous and draining towards the end of the day, especially when I’m trying to do creative tasks like writing blog posts or designing user interface components.

I recently read about how a study published in the Journal of Consumer Research found that low to moderate levels of ambient noise (somewhere between 50 and 70 decibels, or about the level of a quiet conversation or radio playing in the background) can boost performance on creative tasks.

Over the past few days been exploring the use of ambient rain and coffeeshop noise to change the vibe of my office and help boost my creativity. I’ve only been trying this for a few days, but so far I feel more energized ¬†and creative when using this technique.

Here are a few sites that I’ve been using for some simple ambient noise that can play in the background:

If you give it a try, let me know how the ambient noise affected your workday and creativity.
